Learn@Site # 4 (Field Trip) 4 Evergreen Logistics & Lam Chabang Deep Seaport

On 18 October, 2010, we had our trip to Laem Chabang, Chon Buri.  On the way to Laem Chabang early morning, we got lost due to flood, so we arrived 45 minutes late in Evergreen Shipping Agency (Thailand) Ltd., but we did not worry because we were excited to see the port and the Evergreen Company.

When we arrived in Evergreen, the company public relations officer started to speak about the company history, its locations, buildings and facilities, as well as its operation and future plan. He also talked about the x-ray machine radiation detector and infringe copyright burning event.  In addition, he informed us that Evergreen is the very first private company in Laem Chabang Port. The port then became the most famous port in Thailand.

Then, by bus, we went to see the 23-storey tower to see the bird’s eye view of the port. We saw the over-all picture of the port including the activities, machines, equipments, and transportation running and moving around the port.

After that, we went inside the Evergreen’s ship. We were grouped into two to learn how the ship crew worked on the ship. First, we met the captain and informed us about his responsibilities.  Next, we moved to the upper deck to observe the ship’s control room and had some conversations with Mr. Henry, the co-captain. He told us about his experience especially during inclement weather and how he survived the storm.

Then we had special lunch at Cape Racha Hotel courtesy of the Evergreen President Khun Nivat Changariyavavong. We enjoyed eating and sharing our experience together.  After the meal, we gave a token of appreciation to him. In return, the president gave away some souvenirs to us after giving his inspirational talk. Although we met some problems in the morning, the educational trip was memorable.
